7 things I can do to get back into the BJD hobby in 2020

Hi everyone ... it's been a while.

2020 has already had its own fair set of challenges for the world.

In times of struggle you tend to look to the little things to find happiness, playing with dolls is something I consider one such little pleasure and something I want to do more of.

In an attempt to rekindle some long-lost love for the hobby, I set myself seven manageable tasks that I can accomplish this year, to get re-inspired and reinvested in BJDs.

If you'd like to know what these things are you can watch my latest youtube video here.

Friendly reminder that my faceup services are indeed still up and running. :)
Hope you all are keeping healthy and safe! <3

Important Announcement!

This holiday season I have decided to close up shop for a duration of a few months. Main reason being that I am currently in the process of writing my final thesis for university, anyone who has done this in the past can confirm it is a very time-consuming process... and seeing as faceups take a lot of time too I have to prioritise.
These past few commissions that I have done definitely took a lot more time than I would have liked. I enjoy getting heads in and immediately tackling the vision their owner wants for them, nothing pleases me more than powering through a commission and returning the head to the owner within two weeks. But I cannot guarantee that with my workload at the moment, so I'm taking this break to also insure I can hold up the same time efficient working strategy.

I hope to be able to re-open mid February 2018, cannot make any guarantees though. Watch this space and follow me on instagram for updates.

Perhaps during this time I will be able to finally tackle some of my own dolls whom I have not yet painted. My last doll that I got August 2016 still has no faceup....yikes!

To everyone who has supported my art and been so great with waiting, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. Being able to do faceups for other people brings me so much joy and I hope to never have to stop. (emotional blabla, I know, but hey! It's Christmas after all)

With that said, to everyone: Have a wonderfully merry Christmas and a happy start into the new year!

Season's greetings to all!

UPDATED PRICES AND SHIPPING COST

Hello everyone!

Just a quick heads up:  after quite some time offering commissions and well over 3 years doing faceups, I have decided to up the price for my services.

This only applies to faceups! All other services have stayed the same! Time-saving factor is still relevant and has also been updated.

In other news, I have found a very reliable and safe way to ship international packages at a low cost.
This means all EU and international shipping will be the same price henceforth.

Thanks for all of your ongoing support and understanding!
Pocket out.

Happy to announce that I am now accepting commissions again!

This blog will be getting some refurbishing along the way so you might see some changes happening soon.

Other than that, the information has mostly stayed the same.
I look forward to getting back into the swing of things. :)

Important Commissions Announcement!

Hey all!

As I have not been able to find the time to update this site, I have unfortunately had to disappoint some people (I blame myself for that, this post should have gone up a lot sooner), but regardless this has to go up better late than never.

Shiny Pawprint Aesthetics will hereon be closed for a period of five to six months. The reason is that I am currently abroad and cannot accept commissions for this time. I apologise for the inconvenience, but believe me, if I had the utilities to do commissions, I would. However it isn't just the missing supplies and materials, it is also the uncertainty of being in a new place and having expensive doll heads shipped to you and having to rely on a new postal service to ship them back. No. Not having any of that.

If you would like to have a faceup done by me, I will be accepting reservations for when I return. I have created a waiting list for everyone who wants to commission me, the people on the waiting list will be notified before anyone else when I will return. Then, they can send in the heads so that they arrive a day before me. That way, I will be able to start on those commissions immediately when I'm back.

If you are interested, send me an email to pocket-pouch@gmx.de with "Waiting List" in the subject header, that way I will know right away that you want to be on the list and will put you there.

Sorry if this causes any inconvenience or disappointment, I am very thankful for all of your support and I greatly look forward to coming back better than ever in the next year.
If you want to follow me on flickr or youtube, you are very welcome to do so since I will be still posting there regularly.

Have a great time folks and once again, thank you for everything so far! xXx

Cedrenn's July Shoot - Reflections

With dolls that we don't photograph very often, there is always some little thing that puts us off. Some tiny detail that lets us leave them in the box to choose a different candidate. With Cedrenn, it first was the faceup - wasn't working for me, too "pure" and soft. Then the wig wasn't right - that blonde was too  prince-like, too feminine almost. He was coming along but just not there yet. Adding to the whole thing I also felt his eyes weren't really correct either, they were too bright and sparkly.

Then, I decided that change must happen.

First I re-did the faceup, this made his whole expression change.  Everything became a bit darker and gloomier, I took the colour out a bit and added more shadow. There he was, beginning to show himself!

Suddenly, before I knew it, the wig he had from Leekeworld was magically replaced by one made from human hair. The lovely J&C Entangled made this wig a while ago but hadn't found a good use for it till now. Cedrenn got to keep it after she saw how much more manliness and character it gave him. The colour was much better too, a dirtier, more natural blonde than the previous one.

Lastly, his eyes. Currently I have Lune set aside to re-do her faceup, she's undergoing some changes too ( more to come soon), and have had her eyes out of her head as well. They are also from Mako's Aster line, a greyish blue. I put them in Cedrenn and he blew me away.

And so he was reborn!

I don't want to bore anyone with long texts here, I just think doll changes are interesting so I wanted to share Cedrenn's transformation. This shoot wouldn't have been half as successful without the sword though, I think I'd like to work with more props in the future.
